Cricket is often intense, especially during the business end of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, amidst the high pressure and grueling training sessions, some moments bring pure joy and laughter. One such hilarious incident recently took place in the Delhi Capitals (DC) camp, involving their premier speedster Mitchell Starc and captain Axar Patel. Known for his fierce pace and aggressive bowling, Starc showed a completely different, comical side of himself during a recent net session.

The Fun Side of Mitchell Starc: Roars and Meows in the Nets

During a practice session ahead of Delhi Capitals’ final league match, Mitchell Starc decided to ditch his usual intimidating run-up for something much more amusing. Bowling to his skipper Axar Patel, the Australian left-arm fast bowler decided to play some mind gamesβ€”not with lethal bouncers, but with hilarious sound effects.

As Starc ran in to bowl the first delivery, he let out a loud roar midway through his run-up. The sudden noise caught Axar completely off guard, leaving the Capitals’ skipper laughing out loud. Amused by the antics, Axar turned to those watching and said in Hindi: “Dekha hai aisa kabhi? Fast bowler ko roar karwa diya chalu bowling mein.” (Have you ever seen anything like this? Made a fast bowler roar in the middle of his bowling).

The Infamous ‘Meow’ Delivery

If the roar wasn’t enough, Starc took his antics to the next level on the very next ball. Rushing in for his second delivery, the speedster intentionally made a distinct “meow” sound just as he released the ball. Axar, still distracted by the laughter, missed the delivery entirely. Seizing the moment, Starc celebrated his “wicket” by hilariously raising his arms in the air in triumph.

The social media handle captured this golden moment, which quickly went viral among cricket fans:

Axar Patel Pleads for Focus

Facing one of the world’s most dangerous fast bowlers is hard enough, but doing so while trying to suppress laughter is nearly impossible. Axar Patel, who has been finding his batting rhythm late in the tournament, desperately needed a serious practice session. However, Starc wasn’t finished yet.

On the third delivery, Starc grunted loudly just before releasing the ball. This time, Axar had to stop the bowler. The skipper admitted that he was completely losing his focus because his attention was fixed on the odd noises Starc was making rather than the trajectory of the ball.

Understanding his captain’s plea, Starc agreed to tone it down. On the fourth delivery, the Aussie ran in and bowled silently without making any disturbing noises. Axar successfully played the ball and acknowledged the peaceful delivery, saying that it was fine. Starc, in response, playfully placed a finger on his lips to signal that he would remain quiet.

Delhi Capitals’ IPL Season Overview

While the mood in the nets was lighthearted, the reality of Delhi Capitals’ IPL campaign is bittersweet. The Capitals remain one of the few franchises yet to lift the coveted IPL trophy, and their hopes of doing so have officially ended this season as well. Due to a highly unfavorable net run rate, the Capitals cannot qualify for the playoffs even if they secure a victory in their upcoming match.

Despite being eliminated from the playoff race, the Axar Patel-led side has played an exciting brand of cricket, causing several upsets in the latter half of the tournament. The team will play its final match of the season against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at KKR’s iconic home ground, the Eden Gardens.

Mitchell Starc’s Campaign and Road Ahead

Mitchell Starc’s journey with the Delhi Capitals this season has been a rollercoaster. The Australian bowler missed the first eight matches of the tournament due to an injury, arriving in India to join the squad only when the Capitals were already halfway through their campaign. He has featured in five games since his return.

While Starc has consistently proven to be a reliable wicket-taker, maintaining a check on his economy rate has been a challenge. The upcoming clash against KKR is highly likely to be Starc’s final appearance in this edition of the IPL.

Following the conclusion of the IPL season, Starc is expected to return home to Australia. There, he will focus on managing his fitness and training ahead of a demanding and crucial red-ball season for the national team.
