“Dhoni’s era is over”: Former India player hits slams CSK for giving wrong infor

“Dhoni’s era is over”: Former India player hits slams CSK for giving wrong infor — a statement that has sent shockwaves through the cricketing community. Legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni sat out the entire IPL 2026 season due to a persistent leg injury, sparking intense speculation about his future. Now, former Indian cricketer and vocal cricket analyst Kris Srikkanth has leveled harsh criticism at Chennai Super Kings’ management, accusing them of misleading fans and failing to provide clarity on Dhoni’s status.

Confusion Surrounding Dhoni’s IPL 2026 Absence

Dhoni, 44, was notably absent from CSK’s playing XI throughout the season. Despite this, the franchise consistently maintained that he was sidelined due to injury and expected to return soon. Head coach Stephen Fleming and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad repeated this message ahead of multiple matches, keeping hopes alive among fans.

However, as the tournament progressed and Dhoni failed to appear even in a mentoring or support role, questions began to mount. His absence from the dressing room during crucial games, including the post-match lap of honor after CSK’s clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad, further intensified speculation.

Srikkanth Breaks Silence: “Stop Deceiving Fans”

Srikkanth, a former India opener and ex-advisor to CSK, expressed his disappointment in a recent episode of his YouTube channel. He criticized the franchise’s communication strategy, calling it misleading and irresponsible.

“Before the season started, the team said he (Dhoni) was suffering from a leg injury and would be back soon,” Srikkanth said. “Fleming and Ruturaj kept saying the same thing before each game. The management also said that Dhoni wasn’t fit and may not play this season. In fact, no one is missing the player; everyone was asking why he wasn’t in the dressing room.”

He concluded with a firm verdict: “Frankly, Dhoni’s era is over, despite him being a great captain and player in the league. The team management should have been clear rather than deceiving the fans.”

Supporting Voices: Zaheer Khan and Suresh Raina Weigh In

Not everyone agrees that Dhoni’s time is definitively up. Former India pacer Zaheer Khan, who shared the dressing room with Dhoni during his prime, suggested the possibility of a comeback.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Zaheer noted: “After the off-season, Dhoni will want to see how his body responds. MS might want to be retained as an uncapped player if it helps his side during the auctions and look to put in the money on a younger star who can take the franchise forward.”

He emphasized that Dhoni’s decisions are often influenced by personal time and fitness evaluations, stating: “MSD might think about all the factors before he decides if he wants to play one more season of IPL or not. He tends to take the call on playing one more season after spending time with his family and also take care of his fitness.”

Raina Appeals for One More Season

Former CSK stalwart Suresh Raina, who played alongside Dhoni for over a decade, publicly urged his former skipper to return for at least one more season. Raina stressed that Dhoni’s leadership and calm presence remain invaluable, especially in high-pressure match situations.

Meanwhile, current skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad remained non-committal when questioned about Dhoni’s future. While he acknowledged Dhoni’s absence as a “massive miss,” he refrained from confirming any plans, highlighting the uncertainty that still surrounds the legend’s status.

What Comes Next for CSK and Dhoni?

With no official retirement announcement from Dhoni or CSK, the silence only fuels debate. While the franchise appears to be in transition, leaning toward younger talent, the emotional connection between Dhoni and the fanbase remains undeniable.

Yet, as Srikkanth rightly pointed out, transparency is essential. Keeping fans in the dark with vague updates does a disservice to the legacy of one of cricket’s most iconic figures.

“Dhoni’s era is over”: Former India player hits slams CSK for giving wrong infor — and whether fans like it or not, it may be time for CSK to stop sending mixed signals and address the future head-on.
